70s Tokyo Long Hair Inverted” collects Satomi Nihongi's series of portraits documenting hairstyle trends that began to appear on the streets of Tokyo in the 1970’s. The book draws upon a trove of 450 high contrast vintage prints. Dead pan front and back black-and-white street portraits reproduced alongside their inverted negative counterparts. Some of the pictures were published in the vibrant Japanese magazine “Hanashi-no-Tokushu” in 1971, which featured many emerging Japanese artists of the period including Tadanori Yokoo, Shuji Terayama, Shuntaro Tanikawa, and Akira Uno. Text in Japanese and English.
