About

Toshiya Watanabe's second book features entirely new images from his latest series Beyond What You See . As in his previous series, Somewhere Not Here , the artist journeys into the depths of his consciousness to create images that are both realistic and magical. Reality disappears in his images of very real landscapes, giving the feeling of not being here, but elsewhere. As if the artist were seeking to distill disquiet, instability, amidst the beauty of his images.

Influenced by the Japanese concept of “ma,” it creates interruptions or absences that give way to moments of awareness and contemplation. This emptiness encourages us to pause, to reflect on how we perceive the world around us.
