Joan Colom was born in Barcelona in 1921 and is not until the late age of 36 years that is interested in the world of photography. It is at this very moment, in 1957, that Colom enters the Agrupació Fotogràfica de Catalunya and learns the main photographic skills. From that moment, Colom began his great photographic project: photographing the Raval neighborhood, expressing his interest in the street and the people. Colom abandons with these photographs the tendency of "artistic virtuosity" or "photographic purity", looking for a more realistic photograph.
