Miroslav Tichy created, in communist Czechoslovakia, from the early 1960s to the mid-1990s, an obsessive photographic work around the female figure, reinventing photography from scratch on the fringes of any artistic movement. His images, captured instinctively or automatically with approximate optics and devices cobbled together using scrap materials, offer an extraordinary, eroticized and dreamlike reality: they reveal an extraordinary artist, marked by classic pictorial influences, but whose method is sometimes similar to certain amateur practices and “outsider” art. Shown for the first time in 2004, Miroslav Tichy's photographs, unclassifiable and timeless, demonstrate a singular talent. This catalog constitutes the first work on the artist available in French.
