About

The essence of Joshua Amirthasingh’s work lies in the stories it unfolds. Fueled by a deep sense of nostalgia for the vibrant energy of his childhood in India, and his love of cinematic storytelling, Amirthasingh has created a dreamlike document of his adopted city of San Francisco.

Within the everyday bustle of San Francisco, Amirthasingh seeks out quiet moments, using the city's unique interplay of golden hour light—casting a warm, nostalgic glow—and ethereal fog, which creates a dreamy, evocative atmosphere. This interplay becomes a character in itself, adding another layer to the stories he weaves with my camera. Tales from the City offers a conversation between the familiar and the unexpected, inviting viewers to engage with the stories embedded within, and to embark on their own journeys through their pasts.
