About TTP

TTP is the result of five years documenting a ping pong table from a window. Five years in which, every single day, Tomiyasu would capture all the different uses that this humble table would take. This way, he managed to capture not only the many lives and transformations of the table, but the behaviour and social rituals of the people who made them happen. Tomiyasu's project took place through a window in his student apartment in Leipzig, Germany. The photographer spent most of his time in his room, watching for the next mutation to happen. Yes, he did miss out on occasions (including Christmas and New Year's Eve) and appointments. The result is the  fascinating documentation of the interaction of people and this location through the seasons. Because of the consistency of the artist, we witness from the privacy of a south-facing room, the social habits, the candid moments, the congregations and the aloneness that occur around this simple object. Overall, Tomiyasu's observational obsession turns into a social commentary project that focuses on both, the repetition of habits as well as constant change and metamorphosis.
